Two in at Darlo
With the recent announcements from the government and the the FA, non-league football has begun taking tentative steps on the road back to playing games. This announcement has led to a surge in activity with clubs announcing retained lists as well as new signings.
Darlington announced two new signings this week as Alun Armstrong begins his campaign to get the Quakers back in the National League.
First through the door was Nicky Hunt, a familar name from his time at then Premier League Bolton Wanderers. Hunt played over 100 games for Bolton and featured in their UEFA Cup campaign in 2007/08. Most recently Hunt had helped Crewe Alexandra to promotion from League Two before being released. Hunt had decided to continue playing but after speaking to Armstrong was happy to go part-time.
As the dust was settling on the Hunt announcement Darlo announced that they had signed young striker Luke Charman following his release from Premier League outfit Newcastle United. Charman had been a regular in the under 23 set up at St James Park but was unable to break in to the first team with youngster Tom Allan getting opportunities in the FA Cup ahead of Charman.
Armstrong said “He will give us extra options up front, and I believe that we will realise his potential, making him an excellent striker in this league.
“He was someone I tried to get on loan twice last season but Newcastle wouldn’t let him out. He did have other clubs higher up talking to him but I managed to convince him to join us”
